New UNDP programme to be launched soon

Mrs Tegmo-Reddy presents her credentials to President Michel

This will be after consultations between the organisations and their local partners.

Leyla Tegmo-Reddy said this at State House yesterday after she presented her credentials to President James Michel on becoming the new UNDP representative for Seychelles.

Mrs Tegmo-Reddy, who replaces Claudio Calderone, also called on Vice-President Danny Faure.

She said Seychelles has done very well on all the human development indicators, having achieved all the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG), and it should now aim even higher.

“Seychelles is doing very well on things like education and low infant mortality rate and many other areas, so I’ve suggested it may want to go beyond the MDGs,” she said.

She added that Seychelles and the UNDP enjoy cordial relations and the organisation’s work here has grown over the years.
Mrs Tegmo-Reddy said her talks with Mr Michel focused on the environment among “other things which are critical to the country, for example issues related to governance and piracy”.

She said she will continue with UN programmes already started but “adjust given new realities and vulnerabilities”.
