Local offshore firm says award is ‘win for Seychelles’

Named All About Offshore, the company is based in the Oliaji Trade Centre in Victoria.

In an international offshore contest organised by the France-based Otherways International Research and Consultants, All About Offshore was nominated then chosen for an award.

Up against representatives of 53 countries, the company won the Quality and Best Trade Name award and received its prizes in Geneva, Switzerland, last December.

The company’s managing director Peter Vandervalk said the award is tribute not only to the company but to Seychelles as an offshore jurisdiction.

“We are now being recognised more on the international level, especially for the quality of our service, and winning the award for best trade name says that ours shows exactly what we do,” he said.

With over 30 years of e-commerce experience notched up, Mr Vandervalk said he places a lot of emphasis on effective marketing, not only of the company but equally of Seychelles. “We actively promote our business in various ways such as advertising in offshore investment magazines, on The Sunday Times website and a few others,” he said.

How does an offshore company help Seychelles’ economy?

Offshore companies help their host country in various ways, one of the main ones being employment of local people.
All About Offshore employs a completely Seychellois team ? except for its leader Mr Vandervalk.

Another benefit such companies bring is through their payment of taxes.

“We pay the various taxes imposed on us, and the more business we do the more tax we pay and the more revenue the country collects,” said Mr Vandervalk.

“And if we do a good job, word gets out on the market, which is promotion in itself for Seychelles ? especially when it is seen as a safe, secure and prestigious place to do business in.”

Selection criteria

Various criteria were used in the selection process for the contest, recognising prestige, innovation, quality commitment and excellence.

A voting process was carried out by mail, internet and within companies based on concepts such as customer satisfaction, leadership, continuing education, and trading and business results.

In addition to the voting process, Otherways gathered information by consulting the media ? press, radio and television ? consultancy companies, advertising agencies, trade fairs and exhibitions, chambers of commerce and embassies.
