New SPDF museum club launched |17 May 2011

New SPDF museum club launched

The SPDF museum club was launched recently at the Seychelles Defence Academy (SDA) on Southeast Island with a guided tour of the academy as well as the two museums found there.

SPDF museums manager Stella Doway said the aim of having such a club is to first of all teach children fun and interesting facts about the SPDF museums and others found in the country.

The new members had the chance to learn all about the mercenary invasion on November 25 1981, as well as the courses held at the academy.

Mrs Doway said she has a whole year of activities planned for the club members to last until next January.
During this school holidays the children are visiting museums and other historical sites as well doing other fun activities in the club.

At the end of all the events they attend, the club members will be tested to see how much they have learnt.

For the time being, only children whose parents work with the SPDF are allowed to be members, although Mrs Doway said they may take on others whose parents do not.

She also said there were plans to twin this club with the one at the National Museum to continue teaching children.
The 15 SPDF museum club members – aged between 8 and 15 years old – also had the chance to visit the barracks on southeast Island and observe soldiers in their place of work.
