STA gets R218,000 from fund-raising gala dinner

The cheque presentation ceremony

The Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) has received a welcome sum of R218,841 from funds raised at a recent gala dinner held at Domaine de Val des Pres.

The funds will be used to buy a small bus to transport students after late night courses and practical assignments.

The gala dinner is organised as the grand finale of the Seychelles National Culinary Contest where the winners get to prepare their winning dishes for the guests.

Such an event is organised in aid of the tourism academy, to help raise funds for priority projects.

A symbolic cheque for the amount was officially presented to the management of STA by the chairman of the contest’s organising committee, Alfred Fourcroy of ISPC.

It was also during that ceremony that the three winners of the last culinary competition were presented with their certificates and prizes.

Pat Monthy won for the best starter, Bradley Larue for best main course and Robin Etienne for best dessert.

Present at the ceremony were Alain St Ange, chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board; his deputy Elsia Grandcourt; Flavien Joubert, principal of the tourism academy; lecturers and staff of the academy as well as the competition’s organisers and sponsors.

Addressing the guests at the ceremony, Mr St Ange said that after successfully organising the competition and raising funds for the tourism academy for a second consecutive year, STA has confirmed that it will now be buying a small bus to transport students back to their homes after late night courses and practical attachments.

He thanked all the organisers and sponsors for their ongoing support to get the competition firmly on the tourism academy’s list of events as well as congratulated all the chefs who participated in the competition.

He wished them well in their career in an industry that remains the pillar of the Seychelles’ economy.

The sponsors of the last National Culinary Contest were Kenwyn House, Cable and Wireless, Desroches Island, Kreolor, Oceana Fisheries, Hilton Seychelles and Air Seychelles.
