He died on Monday July 7 – a week after taking part in activities to welcome the Indian Ocean Island Games torch in the Plaisance district on Saturday July 2.

Sabury and Ralph Labrosse were involved in an exhibition bout for the occasion and they enthralled the crowd with some of the moves that made them score against and knock out opponents during their heydays.

Sabury was a 57kg silver medallist at the 2nd IOIG in Mauritius in 1985. He died aged 50. His body will be laid to rest today at the Mont Fleuri cemetery after a memorial ceremony at the Sainte Thérèse church.

Former Seychelles Amateur Boxing Federation chairman Simon Lespoir told Sports Nation that Sabury had recently agreed to join forces with other former Seychelles boxing champions to give their support to the fighters who will be in the ring during the 8th IOIG here from August 5-14.
