Dramatic and thrilling fifth round

Peter Fred in action

The bright sunshine throughout the day helped make the racing interesting and thrilling in all five classes at the Champions Park Raceway, Roche Caïman.

Drivers of the SF Cadet class took to the track first and it was Ryan Marianne who took the lead with Rodney Salome in hot pursuit, while Julio Chetty and Michael Gédéon were not too far behind. Amadave Camille, who had a sluggish start, lingered behind, but on the third lap Chetty and Gédéon were involved in a collision, forcing the red flag out to stop the race. Chetty suffered some bruises which put him out for the rest of the day. The final results were thus taken according to the positions of the drivers at the end of the previous lap with Marianne first, Salome second and Camille third. The same result was registered in the final.

Decommarmond took a brilliant SF Junior final win after driving steadily to displace Arnold Mein who had up to now had it easy in all the heats.

In the final, Mein was under pressure from Damien Toule who led at the time, only for the two to clash and lose momentum, thus letting Decommarmond through.

Mein finished second and Toule third. Rennick Bonelamme was as fast as ever but he lost valuable time due to a lot of sliding to finish fourth.

Andrew Gabriel dominated the SF S2 field from the start with wins in all the heats. Alexander Camille was second each time, while Yannick Gabriel and Christian Port-Louis fought it out for the other placings.

In the final, Andrew Gabriel got a good start and pulled away for a big lead before taking the chequered flag first. Camille was second and Port-Louis outpaced Yannick Gabriel to claim third place.

The SF S1 class was won by Peter Fred in another close finish as he was challenged all the way by Roland Delcy, Marc Delcy, Damien Bonnelamme, Marvin Sophie, Dane Decommarmond and Redmond Bonnelamme.

After the 10 laps, Fred came out on top with Roland Delcy second and Damien Bonnelame third.

In the faster SF KGP category, David Rene displaced daughter Liza Rene-Cosgrow by taking victory in a closely contested race. Stephan Simon was third.

Meanwhile, the championship standings in the five classes are as follows. The SF Cadet class is being led by Marianne followed by Salome and Chetty in second and third positions.

The SF Junior category leader is Mein with Decommarmond and Toule second and third.

Andrew Gabriel leads the SF S2 class from Port-Louis with Kurz in third position, while the SF S1 division’s leader is Damien Bonnelame followed in second and third places by Fred with Marc Delcy.

David Rene sits at the top of the SF KGP standings with Rene-Cosgrow and Simon in second and third positions.
