10th All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique – September 3-18-Team Seychelles leave today

Meggy Gertrude will be Seychelles’ flag bearer at the opening ceremonyThe delegation is headed by chief executive of the National Sports Council (NSC) Alain Volcère, while Eric Arnephie is representing Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Vincent Meriton at the Games. NSC’s sports management and development director Robert Auguste is the chef de mission.

Gold medallist in the Laser 4.7 class in Algiers, Algeria in 2007, female sailor Meggy Gertrude will be Team Seychelles’ flag bearer at the Games’ opening ceremony on Saturday at the Zimpeto Stadium in Maputo, while boxer Jovette Jean is the team captain.

Seychelles will compete in seven of the 23 sporting events. These are athletics, badminton, boxing, canoeing, sailing/yachting, swimming and volleyball.

The women’s and men’s volleyball selections and the boxing team are already in Maputo as the competition in two disciplines starts today. The volleyballers left the country on Monday, while the boxers left on Tuesday.
The following is the Team Seychelles delegation for the Games.

Athletics: Lissa Labiche, Lindy Leveau-Agricole, William Woodcock. Coaches Carlos Sanchez Vizcaino and Alexander Rodriguez Aroche.

Badminton: Georgie Cupidon, Steve Malcouzane, Kervin Ghislain, Cynthia Course, Alisen Camille and Danielle Jupiter. Coach Gerald Bibi. Team manager Juliette Ah-Wan. Official Vanessa Créa.

Boxing: Andrique Allisop (56kg), Kitson Julie (69kg), Jovette Jean (75kg) and Keddy Agnes (81kg). Coaches Igor Koleshnikov and Rival Payet

Volleyball (women): Nathalie Agnes, Sandra Joseph, Flora Lesperance, Terille Songoire, Marielle Bonne, Maya Biong, Kelly Matombé, Tina Agathine, Samantha Eugénie, Virginie Richard, Melina Crispin and Petra Richard. Coach Julien Onezime. Team manager Antoine Lafortune.

Volleyball (men): Paul Rose, Jones Mangroo, Kenneth Sinon, Ricky Vel, Bernard Bijoux, Guilly Bijoux, Benjamin Bijoux, Rodney Ah-Kong, Percy Riaze, Perrin Sophola, Ian Furneau and Jude Lepathy. Coach James Camille, assistant Nichol Lesperance. Team manager Ronald Wong. Official Derrick Andrew.

Seychelles Nation journalist Roland Duval and photographer Joena Bonnelame, as well as Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation journalist Barbara Hoareau and cameraman Serge Laurence will also accompany the delegation at the Games.
