President congratulates new Japanese premier |01 September 2011

President Michel has wished Prime Minister Noda every success in his new post, particular in addressing the remaining challenges being faced by the country after the devastating earthquake earlier this year.

“You have been entrusted with a heavy responsibility to bring Japan forward in the face of the tragedies caused by the unfortunate natural disasters which occurred in March this year. I am confident that, under your able leadership, Japan will successfully make progress in overcoming such challenges and continue enhancing progress and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region, and the world at large.”

The President also spoke of the long history of friendship and cooperation between Seychelles and Japan, and the commitment of the local government to continually develop this friendship.

“Seychelles stands ready to make this long-standing partnership with Japan, which is based on friendship and trust, soar to new heights. Today, this cooperation is more important than ever in light of the challenges that Seychelles faces in terms of sustainable development and the constant threat of maritime piracy.”

The President also took this opportunity to thank the government of Japan for the generous assistance it has extended to the government and people of Seychelles over recent years.

It is also to be recalled that President Michel made a state visit to Japan in 2009.
