Seychelles to launch third national culinary competition

The third edition of the National Culinary contest will be launched by Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) chief executive Alain St. Ange, along with his deputy Elsia Grandcourt and the principal of the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA), Flavien Joubert.

The Seychelles culinary competition is organised by the STA and the STB in collaborationA winning dish from a previous edition with the ISPC, Oceana Fisheries, Mövenpick Ice Cream of Switzerland, Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa and Cable & Wireless Seychelles.

The competition was launched two years ago by the country’s tourism academy in a bid to further promote the culinary arts locally.

As in the previous editions of the competition, the chefs will work to impress the judges with dishes of international standard in three categories: starter, main course and dessert.

Winners of the competition will have the chance to serve their winning recipes at a fundraising gala dinner. This year, the funds raised from the evening will be used by the tourism academy to provide its lecturers with specialised training by professional consultants.

Mr St Ange said the competition falls within the concept of the Seychelles Brand of Tourism, which was launched by President James Michel.

“We wanted Seychelles to claim back its tourism industry and to achieve this goal in one key profession we are offering opportunities for our local chefs to get better known and to get more recognised nationally. We need to ensure our professionals are known and this competition will help them achieve the recognition they so deserve,” said Mr St. Ange
