Boxing-Jean loses to Mauritian St Pierre |05 September 2011

A more agile St Pierre, who fought in the 69kg category during the 8th Indian Ocean Island Games and lost to Kitson Julie in the final, won Saturday’s fight against Jean on a 19-13 score.

Although disappointed, Jean acknowledged that his opponent was better physically and technically.

“I am a puncher and my opponent is used to fighting in the lighter category, so he moved around a lot which is something I do not normally do,” said Jean.

He added that after the IOIG, he missed training due to work commitment.

“Although I’m a bit disappointed with my performance, I am not bitter because I knew my opponent was well prepared and wanted to take revenge after his defeat to Kitson at the IOIG,” added Jean.

He also vowed maximum support for his fellow boxers and all Seychellois athletes at the Games.

Meanwhile, Kitson Julie was expected in action yesterday against Ademuyiwa Kehnde of Nigeria.
