Football: Land Marine Cup-The Lions snatch last-gasp win to reach quarterfinal |06 September 2011

The two teams had slugged it out over normal time with both defences holding firm to send the match into extra-time.
As the minutes ticked away and the penalty shoot-out looming, The Lions’ Darren Payet stepped up to score the all-important goal in the 119th minute to knock SMB out.

After booking their place in the quarterfinals, the Cascade-based side await the winners of the St Roch/LightStars clash.

The Lions are in the top half of the draw along with Barclays League division one champions St Michel who are yet to know their opponents – the third division winners, either Beau Vallon or Tiger who will clash soon for their right to play in the big guns.

St Michel may face Anse Reunion in the quarter final as they have been pitted against second division St John Bosco.

As for the 2010 Cup winners St Louis Suns, they are in the bottom half of the draw and face a tricky opening match on Tuesday September 13 against fellow first divisioners Northern Dynamo.

The winners of this fourth round tie will meet either Côte d’Or or inner islands league representatives Beginners who play on September 14.

La Digue-based La Passe are also in the bottom half of the draw and they will begin their campaign against Baie Lazare-based St Francis.

The final of this competition is expected to take place in mid-November.
Other than the 10 top-flight teams, four second division sides, one from the third division and one from the inner islands league are involved in the latter stages of the cup competition.
