Boxing-All hopes gone as Agnes loses on points

Agnes, who will turn 18 on Sunday, lost the 81kg fight on a 16-20 score. He was the country’s last hope after Jovette Jean, Kitson Julie and Andrique Allisop all lost their first-round bouts.

In tears, the young pugilist told Sports Nation he was very disappointed with the result.

“I wanted to make an impact in my first appearance at the All-Africa Games,” he said.

He added that he will correct the mistakes he made today (Tuesday), to better prepare himself for other competitions.

“I am still young and I will be back to compete in the next All-Africa Games,” added Agnes.

Coach Rival Payet said he is satisfied with his fighters’ performance at the Games despite several mistakes which affected their performances. He added that the fighters, especially the younger ones, should take their results as an experience, rather than a disappointment.
