Tough time for local swimmers in the pool |08 September 2011

In the men’s 100m butterfly, Shane Mangroo clocked 1:04.09 to finish 18th out of 21 swimmers. He was supposed to be in action again yesterday in the 50m butterfly and 100m free style races.

Kenya's Jason Dunford won the men’s 100m butterfly in a new meet record of 52.13 seconds. That swim smashed his previous standard of 53.40 set in 2007. South Africa's Chad Le Clos (52.17) and Neil Watson (55.14) took second and third places.

In the women’s 200m freestyle, Shannon Austin took 2:15.18 to take seventh overall spot. She was expected in action again yesterday, this time in the 400m freestyle along with her sister Shrone.

South African Karin Prinsloo claimed her third gold of the week in the women's 200m freestyle with 1:59.84 which is a meet record time. Her effort crushed the previous mark of 2:02.45 set by Melissa Corfe in 2007. Tunisia's Zeineb Khalfallah picked up the silver medal with 2:05.44, while South Africa's Natasha De Vos earned the bronze with 2:06.20.
