Independent candidate wants more women in politics

She said many women had encouraged her, adding they too could stand on their own without being affiliated to any parties.

She said if there were more women parliamentarians and ministers here, “Seychelles would be a perfect country”.

Ms Hoareau said Seychellois should seek to serve their own people.
“As a nurse I have been offered jobs in other countries but I’d feel bad offering my services to other nationals rather than my people.”

She reiterated that her programme, had she succeeded, was to help people focus more on spirituality which “would help our country progress more”.

She congratulated Sheryl Vangadasamy of Parti Lepep who won the seat she and Mr Pierre were vying for but said by encouraging other women to join politics, she felt that she had won something even though she lost in the race for the Mont Buxton seat”.
