National breast screening campaign to start next week |06 October 2011

The campaign, which will run from Monday October 10 to October 22 at the Sheikh Khalifa’s Diagnostic Centre, is an initiative of the Soroptimist Club International of Victoria in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

A special hotline number is being used (4 388201) to register the names of those who would like to do the screening.

Ten persons will be screened each day, and at the end of the screening campaign it is expected that some 100 persons would have been screened.

Should the total number registered for the screening is far greater than a hundred, those names would be placed on a future list, as the Soroptimist Club intends to fund a similar screening campaign next year.

The campaign will involve a comprehensive plan for cancer prevention, including early treatment and control, and educating the public.

People will be taught on the importance of self-examination of breasts, importance of early detection of breast cancer, going for regular check-ups, breast screening tests and also the importance of cancer’s impact on individuals, families and communities.
