New assembly members follow induction course

They learned the new skills during a two-day workshop earlier this week and which was led by National Assembly staff.

The new members learned of the legislative processes and procedures as well as the challenges they face as representatives of the people.

The members followed presentations on The role and functions of the National Assembly and Parliamentary practice and procedures to help them take part in legislative processes more effectively.

They were also informed of the services at their disposal and which contribute to the parliament’s effective discharge of its constitutional mandate.

Veronique Bresson, the Clerk of the National Assembly, said that the key goal of the induction programme is to allow the members to settle into the institution quickly and ensure they continue to be properly informed of their responsibilities.

“The aim of the induction programme is to equip the newly elected members with the necessary knowledge and give them information about legislative ethics and procedures to allow them to discharge their functions at an optimum level,” she said.

The induction programme has also provided an opportunity for the newly elected members to interact with staff of the National Assembly secretariat as well as to get acquainted with the parliamentary precinct.
