Seychelles joins in ANC centenary celebrations |10 January 2012

Vice-President Danny Faure represented Seychelles at the celebrations held on January 8 in Bloemfontein. He was accompanied by the resident high commissioner to South Africa Joseph Nourrice.

In his letter to President Zuma, President Michel wrote that the centenary celebrations marked a victory for the whole of Africa.

“On this 100th anniversary, the new South Africa offers a vibrant and dynamic tapestry of opportunities to a new generation – a generation which has been liberated by the struggle of their forbears,” writes President Michel.

“These centenary celebrations are, however, a timely reminder that no matter how desperate and hopeless a situation may be, the perseverance, belief and determination of our own peoples can be the basis for the victory of equality and justice.

“In the 21st century, we must continue to harness the power of our people in the fight against economic injustice, and the achievement of long-term people-centred development.”

The President added that the people of Seychelles were proud to have been by the side of Africa’s oldest liberation movement during its struggle and that the leadership and vision of freedom of the ANC would no doubt continue serving as inspiration for liberation against oppression, in whatever form it may take.
