Public meetings on electoral reforms to start this weekend |30 January 2012

The series of meetings are being organised by the Forum for Electoral Reform, which comprises the Electoral Commission and representatives of all the five registered political parties in Seychelles, namely the New Democratic Party (NDP), Parti Lepep (PL), Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), Seychelles Freedom Party (SFP) and Seychelles National Party (SNP).

All supporters and members of the public in general are being urged to take part in these meetings and to provide their recommendations as to the issues which need to be addressed for electoral reforms.

The meetings, which will all start at 3pm, will be held on a regional level as follows:
It will kick-off on Saturday February 4 on La Digue, at the district’s community centre, and on Praslin (for both the Grand Anse and Baie Ste Anne districts) at the Baie Ste Anne community centre.

On Saturday February 11, the meeting will be held for the northern districts of Glacis, Beau Vallon and Bel Ombre, and for the western districts of Anse Boileau, Port Glaud and Grand Anse Mahe.

The meeting in the north will be held at the Beau Vallon community centre whereas the one in the west will be held at the Anse Boileau community centre.

For the Southern districts of Takamaka, Anse Royale and Baie lazare, the meeting will be held at the Anse Royale community centre on Saturday February 18.

On that same day, the meeting will also be held at the Pointe Larue community centre for the eastern districts of Cascade, Pointe Larue, Anse Aux Pins and Au Cap.

For the central districts of St. Louis, Bel Air, Mont Fleuri, Mont Buxton, Roche Caiman, English River, Les Mamelles, Plaisance and Anse Etoile, the meeting will be held at the International Conference Centre on Saturday February 25.
