Four arrested in weapon theft case |26 March 2012

The specially trained unit supported by NDEA agents recovered the weapon – a pistol – together with ammunition after a protracted intelligence-led operation on Friday last week.

Three men were arrested after a struggle and are in custody pending a full investigation into the circumstances of the theft.
Members of the specialist team were attacked by a suspect wielding a dagger as they were carrying out the arrest, which occurred in the Point Larue area.

The fourth man was arrested the following day, Saturday, during the course of follow-up investigations into the matter.

Those arrested are all in their 20s, two of whom reside in the Takamaka area, one at Bel Air and the fourth is from Roche Caïman.

The NDEA is satisfied that all of those involved in the theft and in the subsequent attempted sale of the pistol are now in custody and have admitted their guilt.

An investigation file is being prepared at the NDEA headquarters and will be submitted in due course to law officers for the purpose of subsequent court proceedings.
