Resort gives lottery prize money to children’s homes

The Carnaval International de Victoria lottery was drawn at the end of the weekend-long event at the beginning of this month, and the resort won the R20,000 third prize money.

The resort’s general manager Ken Choo presented a cheque for that amount to the CHF patron First Lady Natalie Michel yesterday morning at State House.

Mr Choo said the resort had not only taken part in the lottery by buying around R1,000 worth of tickets, but had also given R15,000 to the lottery itself.

“I have visited the President’s Village and have seen the work being done there, and giving the money to the CHF will help them progress better with the work they are carrying out there,” he said.

“We feel that when we support the carnival, it goes back to the community, so when we learned that we had won a prize, we decided to give it back to the community and we settled on donating to the President’s Village, through the CHF.”

He added that unlike last year, the CHF did not take part in this year’s Carnaval and he wishes he could see them take part again, in the 2013 event.

“We are also organising a visit for the Easter celebrations for the children from various homes, which we are planning to do very soon, in fact on the day before Good Friday,” he said.

Mr Choo said they hope to repeat the gesture next year, adding he left the decision on how the money will be managed entirely up to the CHF, which he said “has good management”.
