Port Glaud gets new heritage trust and school club |21 April 2012

The activity, which coincided with the International Heritage Day celebrated on April 18, was done in collaboration with the Seychelles Heritage Foundation (SHF) at the district’s parish church courtyard – a landmark for the residents of Port Glaud.

Present at the ceremony were the SHF chief executive Patrick Nanty and the chairman of this new trust Daniel Marie.

Also there were community members, students, teachers, district administration representatives and those of private local businesses.

The trust is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation and membership is open to all residents of the Port Glaud district.

Mr Marie was presented with the official certificate of Registration of the Trust, whereas the school heritage club members got their t-shirts.

He called on all businesses to come forward and “make our district and example in promoting social corporate responsibility and public- private sector partnership”.

The objectives of the trust are to carry out conservation and restoration programmes, projects and activities in the districts as well as promote community-based heritage tourism and help the community improve their livelihood.

That same day also saw the launch of Cascade’s heritage trust and school club.
