SNYC and Education team up to tackle social ills affecting the youth

Youth and Education officials discuss plans and programmes during meeting

Present at the meeting, held at the Education headquarters, Mont Fleuri, were principal secretary for Education Merida Delcy, director general for School Odile Octave, newly appointed director general for Youth Fatoumata Sylla, director of Programme Development at SNYC Patrick Nicette, and other education ministry officials.

High on the agenda was the National Crime and Harm Reduction Programme for which various plans and projects will be implemented in schools as of the second term. This programme, which will involve all secondary schools, will provide a platform for the schools to individually identify and develop projects as possible solutions to or to better tackle social ills affecting the youths.

As part of the social renaissance programme, SNYC in collaboration with Education will also be holding a series of talks on topical youth matters, aimed at addressing the many social issues and problems youths are facing such as drug and alcohol abuse, sexual behaviour and many more.

This is primarily to bring more information directly to the youths at district level and in their schools, ensuring they have the proper guidance and support they require.
