School Volleyball Championship: Secondary one - three-Pointe Larue and English River winners

Girls’ winners Pointe Larue    English River, the boys’ champions

The competition is jointly organised by the Seychelles Volleyball Federation (SVF), the National Sports Council and the Ministry of Education.

Only three schools – English River, Anse Royale and Pointe Larue – took part in the girls’ tournament, while the boys’ competition featured four schools. They were English River, Pointe Larue, Anse Royale and Plaisance.

The girls’ tournament started with a league, before the top two met each other in the final. With two wins, Pointe Larue topped the group, ahead of Anse Royale who registered a win and a loss. In the final, Pointe Larue once again proved to be the better side with a 2-0 (25-13, 24-4) win to grab the title.

In the boys’ group, which was played on a league basis, Plaisance and Anse Royale were placed in the same pool, while the second pool featured English River and Pointe Larue.

Plaisance won their match 2-0 (25-25, 25-23) against Anse Royale to finish as pool leaders, while Pointe Larue defeated English River 2-1 to win the other group. The set scores were 25-14, 19-25 and 15-10.

In the semi-final, which was played on cross knock-out basis, Anse Royale beat Pointe Larue 2-1 (18-25, 25-21, 15-11), while in the second semi-final, Plaisance were disqualified after fielding an over-aged player.

In the final, English River won the first set 25-23, before Anse Royale bounced back to win the second set 25-21, levelling the match at one set apiece. More determined in the third and decisive set, English River came out stronger to win it 15-11 and the match 3-1.

The winners received their trophy from Roy Dijoux of the SVF.

The competition for secondary four and five will take place today at the Palais des Sports.
