Meanwhile, three staff members have also received best performer awards as recognition of their remarkable contribution to the ministry.

Marie-Paulette Naiken, Merina Andimignon and Gicelle Tirant are the three longest serving members of staff, with 46 years in their profession whereas Désirée Hermitte, Elva Gedeon and Alain Belle received the best performer awards.

Mrs Hermitte also clinched the Minister’s cup and other prizes as the overall best performer.
A special ceremony was organised on Monday at the School of Education, Mont Fleuri to pay tribute to the group of workers.

The headquarters staff award ceremony is a first time event at the ministry and is in line with the national theme ‘Striving for our Seychelles’. It also coincided with Labour Day, which is celebrated annually on May 1.

The long service award recipients have been working in the ministry’s headquarters since January 1966 until now and have spent between 25 and 46 years in their profession.

Attending the event were Minister for Education Macsuzy Mondon, principal secretary Merida Delcy, director general for schools Odile Octave and other ministry officials.

In her address, Mrs Mondon said the award ceremony is also a way for all workers to develop their sense of belonging towards their workplace and to motivate them to be more productive.

“The success of an organisation depends greatly on its workforce, therefore it is important that we identify ways to keep our staff motivated and interested in their work,” she said.

Mrs Mondon called on all those present to become more productive and to reflect on their roles and responsibilities as workers of the ministry.

“Let us evaluate our performance at work, identify our weaknesses and work hard to improve on them,” she said.
