Kokonet backs music festival |04 May 2012

Following the hosting of successful international events such as the Carnival of Victoria and Festival Kreol, the country will host the first edition of the International Music Festival ZikanZil Seychelles 2012: strings vibration in various locations from May 15  to 19, 2012.  A dozen of the best and talents with various bands from the vibrating string instruments belonging to the local music and creative scenes from Reunion, Madagascar and Europe will inspire with their live performance for five consecutive days.

A total of five live concerts will take place at the Anse Royale auditorium of the University of Seychelles ( Tuesday May 15), National Theatre, Mont Fleuri ( Wednesday May 16 and 17). On Friday May 18 there will be a long open-air concert with free admission in the parking lot in front of the National Council of Arts, Stad Popiler car park. The festival will end on May 19 at the Anse Royale theatre.

Conceptualized by Alliance Francaise, the five-day festival will feature a number of Seychelles music’s biggest names with a multi-texture of sounds, namely: Jany de Letourdie, Ralf, David Andre, and Patrick Victor, appearing alongside Emmanuelle Peters & Rene Sida from Reunion, Linda Volahasiniaina alias vola, and the masculine version of Vola, Michel Rafaralahy from Madagascar, and Seychelles’ own Jude Ally, Joel Manglou from Reunion, and Abaji from Lebanon. The chosen theme this year is ‘strings in vibration’, string instruments being given pride of place in all of those bands. Whether it be on guitar, violin, string bass, or even on bonm or zez , they will delight you with their playing.

The Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture said that “the major reason that makes this festival special is its five-day music extravaganza involving some of the top, most well-known artists. The Music Festival has the potential to become one of Seychelles’ niche cultural assets. The blend of cultural harmony, which constitutes this festival, showcases the dynamism of our culture. Zikanzil is a platform for cultural exchanges and that of universal language.”
