Nurses day celebrations to be low-key |07 May 2012

Activities to be organised locally will however be low-key.
It is the Nursing Association of the Republic of Seychelles which is taking the lead in commemorating this day under the theme: ‘Closing the Gap: From Evidence to Action’.

This theme has been chosen by the International Council of Nurses which believes that nurses are well placed to supply important information about context; about different systems, population group needs and the role of local politics and social factors.

“The use of an evidence-based approach enables us to challenge and be challenged in our approach to practice and to hold ourselves accountable.”

“It allows us to constantly review our practice and to seek new and more effective and efficient ways of doing things, thereby increasing access and to care and wellbeing.”

Among the activities to mark the day locally is a series of presentations by nurses based on their research. The presentations will take place at the Seychelles Hospital from 1:30pm to 3:30pm tomorrow, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Apart from these activities, long-serving nurses are also to be honoured at a later time.
