The equipment has been bought with the US $2,000 received yearly by all local federations and associations affiliated to the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga).

The money comes from the Olympic Solidarity initiative budget and is given to all National Olympic Committees.

Chairman of the Seychelles Volleyball Federation (SVF) Jude Florentine accepted the equipment comprising balls, nets and ball bags from Socga president Antonio Gopal in a ceremony on Monday at the local Olympic body’s head office at Stad Linite, Roche Caïman.

Mr Florentine thanked Socga for the equipment and reassured the association that they will be used accordingly, solely for the benefit and progress of local volleyball.

He also thanked Socga for past support received, including help under the Team Support Grant which allowed our national selections to prepare for the 8th Indian Ocean Island Games held on home soil in August last year.

He added that the equipment will also boost the interests of more youngsters in taking up volleyball as a sport.
