Mancham to attend Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations

Mr Mancham will thus take part in the celebrations as the official representative of the Mr Manchamgovernment and people of Seychelles. 

“Seychelles will be represented at the diamond jubilee celebrations by former President Mancham, who has played an important role in the history of Seychelles and its relationship with the United Kingdom,” said President Michel.

Mr Mancham met Queen Elizabeth in 1972 when she visited Seychelles to open the international airport, in his capacity as Chief Minister of the colonial government.

President Michel personally congratulated the Queen on her Diamond Jubilee when he met Her Majesty during his first official visit to the UK in February this year.

“On behalf of the people of Seychelles, and with expression of our profound friendship, I would wish to express our sincere congratulations.  We unite with the rest of the Commonwealth family, in wishing Your Majesty and members of the Royal Family, continued good health, happiness and prosperity,” said the President during his meeting.

The two Heads of State discussed the most recent matters of cooperation between the United Kingdom and Seychelles.

Her Majesty the Queen recalled the fond memories she has of her visit to Seychelles in 1972.
The Queen conveyed her best wishes to the people of Seychelles, as well as their continued prosperity and development in peace and stability.
