Olympic school quiz competition-Pointe Larue secondary makes it three in a row

This year’s quiz competition featured questions about the modern Olympics, the Olympic movement, the Commonwealth Games and Seychelles at the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games.

Similar to last year, Pointe Larue secondary featured in three of the four finals of the quiz competition – secondary one-two, secondary 3-5 and secondary five – and won two.

In the secondary five final, the Pointe Larue secondary team -- comprising Nissa Joseph, Kelly-Mary Anette and Corine Rose -- emerged victorious over the Prsalin secondary trio of Anza Gendron, Jessintha Malbrook and Daniella de Silva. The final score was 22-16.

Pointe Larue secondary’s other victory was in the secondary three to four category, where Angela Edmond, Paul Gédéon and Anthea Sinon defeated Tania Pouponneau, Jean-Yves Rose and Anya Chang-Time of Praslin secondary to retain the title won last year. The final score was 17.5-14.

In the secondary one to two category final, the Mont Fleuri team comprising Brigitte Cave, Neil Sirame and Ajay Kumar defeated Wendina Dookley, Dwayne Charles and Chloé Edmond of Pointe Larue 16-8.5 to go home with the title, dethroning last year’s winner Praslin secondary.

In the primary four to six category, Ian Gabriel, Lester Tirant and Sheena Leste of Anse Aux pins were the winners over the Grand Anse Mahe team comprising Priscille Vidot, Julia Razanajatovo and Amos Florentine. The final score was 11.5-5.5.

The winners received their prizes -- which included a floating shield and individual trophies -- from Socga president Antonio Gopal.

The next school activity on Socga’s programme is the annual public speaking competition which will be held on July 4, while June 8 is the deadline for the arts competition ‘Artistic inspiration for the athletes competing at the London Olympics’ launched earlier this year.
