Volleyball: National League-La Digue upset Cascade, Friends keep winning |13 June 2012

After winning the first set 27-25, Cascade had no power to resist the come-back of the La Digue team who won the second and third sets 25-10 and 27-25 respectively for a 2-1 lead. Cascade then redeemed themselves during the fourth set which they won 24-14 to tie the match at two sets apiece.

La Digue came out stronger in the fifth and decider set which they won 15-13 for a 3-2 win, handing Cascade their first league defeat of the season.

Despite the loss, Cascade remain top on the league table with 16 points from five wins and a loss out of six matches. As for La Digue, the win steered them to the fourth place with 14 points from four wins and two defeats out of six matches.

In the other women’s division one league match played, league title contender Friends took less than one hour to defeat OSC Comets 3-0. The set scores were 25-18, 25-6 and 25-8.

Having played one match less, Friends are now only a single point behind leaders Cascade with a maximum 15 points out of five matches.  The two teams will clash in their next league match next weekend.

Following the defeat, OSC Comets are now fifth on eight points after registering a single win and five defeats in six matches.

In the only men’s match played during the weekend, division two runners-up Outsiders registered their third win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Juniors. The set scores were 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20. Outsiders have now garnered 10 points from three wins and a loss out of four matches.

As for juniors, the defeat keeps them third on eight points from two wins and two defeats out of four matches.
