Newly-weds contribute to tree-planting campaign

The tree-planting event -- a joint initiative of the Sino-Seychelles Friendship Association and the Seychelles Tourism Board -- took place at the Anse Royale beach park in the presence of the Minister for Environment and Energy, Professor Rolph Payet, Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange, principal secretary for environment Wills Agricole, the Chinese ambassador to Seychelles Shi Zhongjun, Seychelles’ resident ambassador to China Philippe Le Gall, the chairman of the Sino-Seychelles cultural organisation Cui Yongan, general manager of Beijing Qiangsheng Investment Ltd Company Yui Zong Chang, members of the National Assembly and volunteers from different institutions.

Prof. Payet said the new plants would stand for many years as witnesses to the couples ‘promises to each other’, adding the gesture is also in support of a global effort to make the planet greener as well as counting towards the national campaign of planting 20,000 trees by the end of the year.

In his speech, Mr Cui said the initiative is a bid on the Chinese delegation’s part to cooperate with the government of Seychelles in the joint venture of planting “a lovely forest in the spirit of peace, friendship and universal love, which will always symbolise the longevity and continuity of the strong ties between China and Seychelles”.
