Pact paves way for Mauritian doctors to work here

Messrs Adam and Boolell exchange documents after signing the MoU

Mr Adam and Dr Boolell, who is also his country’s minister responsible for regional integration and international trade, also signed an MoU relating to the education sector and specifically an understanding between the University of Seychelles and the University of Mauritius.

Dr Boolell is here with Mauritian Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam – who is on a four-day State visit and was guest of honour for our 19th National Day celebrations at the invitation of President Michel. Both leaders witnessed the signing which took place at State House on Monday.

The MoU on health cooperation covers skills development and exchange programmes for health professionals between the two countries.

“Mauritius and Seychelles are natural partners and these two MoUs mark the start of a deepening of our engagements in many areas,” Mr Adam said.

“We share the same vision of prosperity for our people but we also share many of the same challenges so together we are better equipped to realise our ambitions. Over the coming months, we will be pursuing additional areas of cooperation in the areas of trade, policing, and tourism among others.”

Mr Adam said Seychelles and Mauritius are keen to work together to continually fight the scourge of piracy, and to speak with a more unified voice in the international arena, particularly in line with their commitment to the Indian Ocean Commission and to the Southern African Development Community’s Roadmap for Madagascar.

“As President Michel said during our working session this morning, a more prosperous region is for the benefit of us all so Seychelles and Mauritius are committed to working together to safeguard and realise the full potential of our Blue Economy, as well as facilitate exchanges between our private sectors,” added Mr Adam.

In addition to the traditional sectors, he highlighted possible cooperation in the fields of intelligence sharing and gathering, and in social development, particularly in addressing social ills such as drug abuse and trafficking.
