This was in honour of World Blood Donor Day on June 14 under the theme of Every blood donor is a hero and took place at the Sheikh Khalifa diagnostic centre in the presence of principal secretary for health Veronique Laporte, president of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles Barbara Carolus Andre, World Health Organisation representatives, staff of the Ministry of Health and the Red Cross Society of Seychelles as well as an Indian Ocean delegate of the Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent.

Those who took part included staff from the Ministry of Health, Seychelles Trading Company, Seychelles People’s Defence Forces and the police to name a few.

“In order to ensure that everyone who needs blood has access to sufficient and safe blood, this day also presents an opportunity to look at the systems and policies as well as collaboration with agencies involved in the process,” said Mrs Carolus Andre, adding at the same time the Red Cross is renewing its engagement to the government in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to train blood donor recruiters who will become responsible for finding and motivating donors.

Singer David Andre also took part in the ceremony with his composition Song for Humanity.
