Monica (left) pictured here in her evening gown created by stylist Myriam (right)Fifty girls from all over the world are competing in this year's pageant the crowning ceremony of which will take place on July 7 at the Top Hotels in Prague.

Monica is being accompanied to the event by Carol Celestine, a sign language interpreter from the Association of People with Hearing Impairment (Aphi).

The winner of this year’s Miss Deaf World will be awarded a crystal crown worth R200,000 among many other gifts.

A series of activities including touring of historical sites and some sea outings have been organised for the contestants while they will be in Prague for the June 30 - July 11 event.

As is the case in all beauty pageants, the contestants will parade in their casual and swim wear as well as evening gown and each of them will make a presentation. Monica will perform our traditional sega dance.

Monica’s evening gown for the crowning ceremony has been sponsored by Myriam’s Exclusive while Ste Anne Resort sponsored her shoes.

Miriam, with her exclusive touch and talents, has designed several winning pageant dresses in the past.

Speaking just before leaving for Prague, Monica said that since taking part in the Miss Deaf Africa pageant her life has been full of excitement.

“I feel more confident now and once again I will try to do my best at this once in a lifetime event,” said the 18-year-old.

“I know that Miss World is on a higher level and that it will be more challenging with more contestants but I am going with a very positive spirit and once again I am going to show the best of myself and make my country proud,” she added.

Monica, who recently met the new Miss Seychelles … Another World 2012, Sherlyn Furneau, noted that she has given her some tips which she will surely put to good use.

Monica also availed of the opportunity to express her sincere thanks and gratitude to all the people who have really supported and believed in her all along; her friends and family, Aphi and its chairperson Anita Gardner, who has also been her coach, taking care of all the tiny last minute details to ensure she is completely ready for her trip.

Aphi also expresses its best wishes of luck to Monica and says a special thank you to her sponsors.
