Ministry warns against selling and distributing untreated water |23 July 2012

This follows incidents whereby certain individuals have been selling water from bowsers without permission. The water is from unknown and unapproved sources and furthermore, it is untreated.

“Please be aware that no other person/agent apart from the designated bowsers contracted by PUC and retailers for bottled water, approved and monitored by the Public Health services are allowed to sell or supply water to the public, says an advisory from the Ministry of Health.

“Legal action will be taken against any persons/agencies found engaging in such illegal activities. The public is being reminded that there are so many health risks associated with using water from unknown untreated sources for domestic purposes i.e. drinking, cooking, and they should not put their health at risk by using these unsafe water sources,” the advisory adds.

The manufacturers, distributors and retailers of pure natural water are also reminded of the importance of transporting bottled water in well-covered vehicles, due to the adverse effects of sunlight exposure on the bottled products.

Failure to comply with this requirement will lead to recommendation to suspend and/or revoke of their respective license.
