Miss Seychelles...Another World 2012 captures journey of ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ on video

Miss Seychelles Sherlyn Furneau holding a young girlThe ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ video captures Seychelles’ beauty queen using her role and ability to make a lasting and real contribution to the lives of Seychellois children with special needs, through a number of visits she carried out  to their various established institutions.

The video shows Miss Furneau visiting children of the School of the Hearing Impaired, School for the Exceptional Child, as well as meeting children from the home of ‘Foyer de la Providence’ which on that day had welcomed the children of ‘Foyer de Nazareth’ and ‘Foyer de la Solitude’ to also meet the local beauty queen. Her various visits gave her the chance to engage and share some special moments with the children through various activities.

Being very much aware that she is looked upon and seen as a role model, Miss Furneau also took her visit at the ‘Foyer de la Providence’ – home to girls in Seychelles needing special help – as an opportunity to reach out to these young girls by addressing a special issue dear to her that is ‘education’ and ‘well-being’ of teenage girls. In her video, Miss Furneau can be seen encouraging the girls to always believe in themselves and have purpose in life.

Miss Seychelles...Another World 2012 created her video ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ with the help of the Seychelles Tourism Board, and more so thanks to the Seychelles Children’s Foundation who readily made her visits possible.

The Seychelles Children’s Foundation is a public, non-profit organisation founded in 2006 by the First Lady of Seychelles Natalie Michel who holds the protection and well-being of children needing special attention close to her heart and dedicates herself to the cause.

The foundation was set up as another platform on which to carry out President James Michel’s mission of providing every child in Seychelles with the steps to a bright future. The foundation’s primary mission is to provide support to the less fortunate children of Seychelles, acting as a fundraiser and facilitator for organisations that deal directly with children in the community. It also supports direct interaction with children in need wherever possible.

From the onset of her involvement in the Miss Seychelles...Another World 2012 beauty contest, Miss Furneau expressed her desire to contribute to the lives of those who are less fortunate and vulnerable in society, with her heart and arms specially opened towards children with special needs and faced with daily challenges.

Miss Seychelles...Another World 2012 ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ video has been filmed to be used as she takes part in the Miss World beauty pageant. It is a pre-requisite of the contest that every contestant shows they have been able to make a real difference to the lives of people in need in their home country.  The Miss World contestant who is shown to have made a greater contribution to the lives of her people in need stands to win the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ award.
