New FM station gets green light |03 August 2012

The Department of Information Communications Technology (DICT) announced yesterday that the government has recently approved a project for the deployment of another commercial sound (FM) broadcasting station in Seychelles.

“The radio broadcasting station will be owned by High Performance Promotion (HPP) Ltd Company and will be broadcasting under the station name of Seashell Sound FM,” said a communique from the DICT.

This is the second project of its kind approved by the government, after approval was granted to Pure Entertainment Ltd to operate an FM radio under the station name Pure FM.

The approved broadcasting stations are independent of the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC).

The DICT communique noted that another broadcaster will create pluralism in the provision of sound broadcasting service in Seychelles which serves the best interest of the community and the economy.

“It will give customers more choices of local sound broadcasting stations to tune in to and it is anticipated that there will be an increase in the variety and the quality of programme content on the air waves,” added the communiqué.
