New British HC pays courtesy call on Speaker |09 August 2012

The Speaker apprised the British high commissioner of the reforms being undertaken by the National Assembly to make it more democratic and modern.

Dr Herminie further briefed the high commissioner on the committees and the oversight role they play to ensure accountability and transparency.

Ms Skoll on her part pledged the support of the Commonwealth for the reforms and the National Assembly’s endeavour to strengthen capacity building for both its members and staff.

They further discussed the role of the media in bringing the parliament closer to the population and open to public scrutiny.

The high commissioner will this week pay a courtesy call on the Leader of Government Business, Marie-Antoinette Rose and the Leader of the Opposition, David Pierre.
