Youths mark their day with host of activities

The praise and worship event was a lively affair

Among the activities they took part in was an afternoon of praise and worship held at the Youth Health Centre at English River on Saturday.

The event kicked off to a packed hall, as all present took part in singing a number of songs, and prayers and worship, led on by a live band.

The activity was organised by the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) for the north region, which covers Beau Vallon, Bel Ombre, Glacis, Anse Etoile and Ile Perseverance Village 1.

Members of the youth assembly taking part in the tree-planting activityYoung people from the central region were also present – which includes Ile Perseverance Village 2, English River, Mont Buxton, St Louis and Bel Air.

Led by a multi-denominational group called Freedom Group, the atmosphere was lively right from the start.

There was also a treasure hunt for the youths, who all present took part in enthusiastically.

The principal youth officer for the north region, Samantha Francois, told Seychelles Nation that they had decided on the praise and worship event because they felt that with the many social ills that today’s youths are currently facing, such an event will bring them together spiritually.

“The event caters for a variety of religious denominations, but the purpose is one which all can relate to,” she said.

“We expect that after the activity, those young people will be better able to praise and worship and also be able to interact with members of other denominations. We are also aiming to repeat the activity for other regions if and when possible.”

Apart from the praise and worship event, the SNYC also organised other activities to mark World Youth Day. These included football competition at the astro-turf playing field, tree-planting event by members of the youth assembly, youth voices at Intendance beach, and traditional games and talent show at the Cascade community centre.
