Flag hoisting marks India’s 66th independence anniversary

This joyous occasion was graced by the presence of Ambassador Maurice Loustau-Lalanne The flag raising ceremony yesterdayand the Indian high commissioner to Seychelles Thanglura Darlong.

Mr Darlong read a message from Indian President Pranab Mukherjee for the occasion.

He said India’s economy is today more resilient and confident.

“Two decades of steady economic reforms have contributed to improvement in average income and consumption levels in both rural and urban areas.”

He added that there is a new found dynamism in some of the most backward areas bringing them into a national economic mainstream.

“Yet there are several gaps that need to be bridged.”
In his message Mr Mukherjee wished all Indian nationals across the globe a Happy Independence Day anniversary and peace.

The ceremony ended with a gathering for all.

Later yesterday evening a reception was also held at the Ephelia Resort to mark the occasion.
