Football: Land Marine Cup-Tigers maul Mont Buxton to reach quarterfinal |25 August 2012

The gulf in difference between this second division team and their third division counterparts was evident as Tigers were guilty of some glaring miss in the early minutes.

In the 15th minute, Tigers’ Nigel Hoareau centred to Chris Matombé who failed to beat goalkeeper Benjamin Fanchette.
At the other end a minute later, Mont Buxton put in a good string of passes but Marcus Pointe shot weakly at goalkeeper Norris Côme.

In the 26th minute Matombé was guilty of another bad miss from Ahmad Arissol’s free-kick as his overhead kick sailed wide.
A minute later, the same Matombé made amends as he latched onto a through ball to beat the Mont Buxton defence and slot the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead.

In the 39th minute, Matombé made it 2-0 for Tigers after captain Michel-Ange Tall released Phil Brioche who squared the ball to him and he hooked it past goalkeeper Fanchette for a 2-0 score.

Matombé returned the favour to Brioche on the stroke of half-time as he laid the ball on a plate to him but he missed the target.

Tigers were more ruthless in the second half and in the 49th minute Kevin Bonne picked up a poor clearance by Mont Buxton goalkeeper Fanchette to thread a pass to captain Tall who burst through to place the ball into the net to make it 3-0.
Matombé completed his hat-trick in the 52nd minute from a superb cross by Miguel Kilindo which he easily tapped home for a 4-0 score.

In the 69th minute, Tigers’ captain Tall filtered a pass to Hoareau who fired past Fanchette to make it 5-0.
Tigers went further ahead in the 83rd minute as substitute Damien Rath saw his dipping shot sail into the net for a 6-0 lead.

Tigers compounded Mont Buxton’s misery in the 88th minute as they put the icing on the cake after some good approach saw substitute Darrel Lucas lay the ball to Rath who hit the target to complete his brace and round up a 7-0 victory.
Tigers will now meet Côte d’Or or Foresters in the quarterfinal.
