In May 2012, a conference was organised during the Productivity Week in which poor productivity was said to be caused by insufficient strategic planning.

This is one of the main reasons why the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources Development in collaboration with the Seychelles Institute of Management (SIM) organised the course.

The aim of the workshop is to equip leaders with the necessary knowledge, tools and skills in how to manage their organisations strategically in order to enhance productivity in their workplaces.

The workshop being held at the SIM was officially opened on Wednesday by the principal secretary for labour and human resources development Veronique Bresson.

Attending the opening ceremony were the institute’s acting chief executive Girra Padayachy, representatives of the SIM and of the MLHRD.
In her address, Miss Bresson said strategic planning in organisations is crucial especially at a time when many challenges are emerging.

Strategic planning ensures that decisions that are taken do not affect working conditions and rights of workers, she said.

“I advise you all to take a more participatory approach when formulating strategic plans of your organisations to ensure that the plans are carried out effectively,” she said.

She called on the leaders to be committed towards improving workplace productivity as it will help to better visualise the direction being taken by their organisations.

At the end of the workshop, those taking part are expected to have a good understanding of what strategic planning means and appreciate how this concept can enhance productivity among other goals.
