New UNDP rep accredited

  Mr Springett presents his credentials to President Michel

Mr Springett, who is based in Mauritius, later also called on Vice-President Danny Faure.

Present at the State House talks were the Minister for Foreign Affairs Jean-Paul Adam and Seychelles’ representative to the UNDP, Roland Alcindor.

Mr Springett later told the press that the discussions, which he described as “fruitful”, focussed on energy and the environment.

He said UNDP shares President Michel’s vision to develop new renewable energy sources.

The ongoing economic reforms, launched in 2008 and backed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), were also discussed and Mr Springett expressed satisfaction that it is successful.

Mr Springett also noted that Seychelles already ranks top in Africa on UNDP’s indicators for social development, such as life expectancy and educational opportunities and environment conservation.

Mr Springett, who is American, has for 20 years been involved in international relief organisations, such as Oxfam, in Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East.
