Volleyball: National League-La Digue narrowly clinch men’s division two title

Friends and Cascade will launch the women's Divisional Cup on Saturday

Both are locked on 32 points from 10 wins and two defeats in 12 league matches. It is only a superior set difference – 34 for and 14 against – that put La Digue ahead of Outsiders – 32 for and 14 against – assuring them the title.

In their last two league matches during the weekend, La Digue registered two crucial victories over Juniors and Cadets to match rival Outsiders who had already played all their matches and were waiting for the outcome.

In their first match, La Digue took 85 minutes to beat Juniors 3-1 (26-24, 25-11, 19-25, 25-18), while in their second match they came back from behind to beat Cadets 3-1. The set scores were 21-25, 25-17, 25-22 and 25-13.

The defeat assured Juniors the third overall spot with 22 points from five wins and seven losses after 12 encounter, with a set difference of 23 for and 24 against.

As for Cadets, they ended the league campaign at the bottom of the table with 14 points. They have won only one match and lost 11, while their set difference is eight for, compared to 34 against.

Newcomers Airwaves have ended the 2012 season in the fifth position with 20 points from 12 matches. They have collected 18 sets and conceded 29.

In the women’s division two league, champions Rainbow maintained their season’s clean sheet, with a 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-22) win over Island Girls to finish their inaugural league campaign unbeaten. Rainbow ended the season with a maximum 42 points from 14 wins in as many matches. They have won 42 sets and conceded only five.

Roots Sisters finished as the division’s runners-up with 36 points from 11 wins and three losses. They collected 37 sets and lost 19.

As for Island Girls, they finished third overall with 30 points after eight wins and six losses. Their set difference is 31 for and 23 against.

Saints United finished as the league’s fourth best with 28 points from seven wins and seven losses, ahead of fifth-placed St Louis Bombers who garnered 26 points after six wins and eight losses.

Mont Fleuri finished sixth with 24 points from five wins and nine losses, followed by Bel Ombre in the seventh position with 23 points after five wins and nine losses.

Aros finished last with only 12 points from 14 losses in as many matches.
With Friends already champions, Cascade added three more points to their total with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-18) win over OSC Comets in their last league match, bringing their final count to 38.
Already guaranteed the league’s runners-up prior to the match, Cascade have registered 12 wins and two defeats during the season. They have 39 sets for and 14 against.

La Digue finished third with 34 points after 10 wins and four losses, ahead of Arsu who finished fourth with 32 points from nine wins and five losses.

With 26 points from six wins and eight losses, Juniors ended their league campaign fifth, ahead of Praslin Volleyball Club who accumulated 21 points from four wins and 10 losses.

OSC comets finished sixth with 18 points, ahead of tailenders Santa West who collected only 14 points after 14 losses.

Next on the Seychelles Volleyball Federation’s (SVF) calendar is the Divisional Cup competition which will start this coming weekend, before the SVF Cup in October.
