Thailand and Seychelles to seek gains as regional gateways

Mr Boonpracong on his accreditation visit to State House yesterday

Thailand is the gateway to Asia and Seychelles to eastern and southern Africa, bringing the chance for many opportunities which the two countries can exploit through further cooperation.

Mr Boonpracong said Thailand is interested in investing in Seychelles, noting a company from the kingdom – Thai Union Frozen – is a co-owner of the Indian Ocean Tuna limited, the largest factory here.

“This is evidence that Thai firms are interested in investing in Seychelles,” he said.

Other possible areas of cooperation are agriculture and tourism, he said, adding talks with Mr Michel partly focused on the possibility of renewing direct air links between the two countries and offering agricultural services.

“The climate here is similar to ours so with proper exchange of expertise and knowledge we can support each other.”

He said Thai investment overseas benefits the host country and also the kingdom’s economy, hence the government encourages Thais to invest abroad.
