The highly competitive and enjoyable competition which attracted over 30 golfers was played under the Medalford format, in which the front 9 holes are stroke play and the back 9 Stableford points.

Several players were in the hunt at the half-way mark, including the likes of Louis Vandagne, Andrew Hoareau, David Deltel, Axel Andrade and Jemmy Esther. Andrew and Jemmy in particular had set the pace with fine front 9 net scores of 31 and 30 respectively.

After 18 holes of play, Andrew Hoareau set the club house lead with a total of 10 after his back 9 score of 21 points was deducted from his front 9 score. His biggest threat was Jemmy, however, when he came in with a back 9 of 19 points to end with a net score of 11. It was Andrew (a 3 handicap golfer) who took the honours by one stroke, relegating Jemmy to a commendable second place. Axel Andrade took third place with 13. Subsidiary prizes went to Louis Vandange for the best front 9 and David Deltel for the best back 9.

Francis Mondon, the commercial manager of Mahe Distributers Ltd (MDL), presented the winners with their prizes.

Mr Mondon, a very capable golfer himself, stated that MDL was delighted to collaborate with Phoenix Breweries to sponsor its first golf tournament and was looking forward to more sponsorship deals in the future that would include a prestigious calendar of golf events.
