42 long-serving teachers awarded-● Carmelle Gappy honoured for her 46 years of work |02 October 2012

She was presented with a cash prize by President James Michel as Alex Souffe of the University of Seychelles was recognised as the longest serving teacher trainer, having worked in that capacity for 19 years. Mr Souffe has put in 33 years as a teacher.

Baie Lazare primary school teacher Berard Esparon who has been a teacher for 36 years was awarded as the longest serving headteacher, a position he has held for 19 years.

The ceremony also recognised 10 teachers who will take their retirement this year, namely Maryse Robert, Sheila Dine, Nadege Emmanuel, Zita Laurence, Rita Milius, Suzanne Morel, Anne Marie Port- Louis, Aimée Musard, Valiaman Stravens and Aziz Sylla.

As he launched Teachers’ Week, President Michel congratulated the teachers saying they deserved the recognition.

“It is a testimony to your commitment, to your hard work and to your devotion to the education and upbringing of our children. Our nation is grateful to you and we thank you. We hope that other teachers will follow in your path,” he told them.

Among those present at the ceremony were Vice-President Danny Faure, ministers, secretary of state, Barry Faure, principal secretaries and vice-chancellor of the University of Seychelles Marina Confait.
