Basketball-New women’s draw as RA Sisters get the boot |09 October 2012

This has been decided by the National Basketball Technical Committee (NBTC) after RA Sisters were booted out of the competition for not turning up for two league matches.

It is stated under section 5.1 of the SBF bye-law ‘5.0 Sanctions and Penalties’ that a club/team that fails to field a team for whatever reasons not acceptable by the federation for any two league matches shall be automatically suspended for the rest of the season and shall be relegated to the lowest division (where possible).

RA Sisters lost by walkover against Mont Fleuri and HotShots in the third and final round of the women’s championship as they did not have enough players for the matches.

As there is only one women’s division, the team can register again for next season.

Back to the SBF Cup, the four remaining teams – league champions Anse Etoile Stars, Mont Fleuri, HotShots and Juniors – have been drawn in two pools of two. Anse Etoile Stars and Mont Fleuri are in pool A, while HotShots and Juniors are in pool B.

The teams will play each other once in their respective groups before progressing to the cross knockout semifinals on October 20 and 21 at Victoria Gymnasium.

Meanwhile, the first match of the men’s competition was expected to be played yesterday between second division sides Anse Etoile and Razors.

The women’s and men’s finals have been scheduled for Saturday October 27 at 3pm and 5pm at Victoria Gymnasium.
