Get ready for La Digue offshore fishing tournament |12 October 2012

The two main sponsors of the much-awaited competition are Seychelles Breweries and Cable & Wireless, and the SSFC would like to thank them both as well as the other sponsors.
The fish caught will be sold to Sea Harvest and the proceeds will be used to fund a charitable project on La Digue.

As the organisers are expecting a large turnout, they are requesting all boats on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue to register prior to the day of the competition. They can do so by contacting Farima Barbier on 2603626.

Registration fee is R2,000 per boat. All SSFC members can take part for free, while non-members have to pay R250 to become a member and to be eligible to compete. The registration deadline is 6pm on Friday October 26. A team may consist of a minimum two anglers.

All boats are expected to be at La Passe jetty on La Digue before 5pm on Friday October 26 and the skippers’ meeting will be held at 5.30pm sharp the same day at the island’s Fun Park.
The competition is open to both trolling and bottom fishing. Sharks and rays will not be accepted.

The boats will leave the La Passe jetty at 3am on Saturday October 27 and should be in by 4pm the same day.

A barbecue and moutya dance will also be organised at Anse Kalis as from 7.30pm, while the prize-giving ceremony is slated for Sunday October 28 as from 11am at the Fun Park.

A total of 21 prizes will be awarded at the end of the tournament. Sixteen of those will be awarded to boats with the heaviest fish in each category for trolling and bottom fishing. The other five are special prizes.

There will be prizes for the heaviest barracuda, dorado, kingfish, marlin, rainbow runner (galate), sailfish, tuna dogtooth, and tuna yellow fin in the trolling category.

In the bottom fishing category, there will be prizes for the heaviest bordomar, bourgeois, capitaine blanc or rouge, carangue or saumon, croissant, job - job jaune – kalkal, vara vara and vieille (any type). The prize for each winning fish is R1,500.

The special prizes include best total trolling catch (R2,000), best total bottom catch (R2,000), best total overall catch (R2,000), runners-up (R2,500), and best team (R5,000).

The tournament winners (best team) and runners-up will be determined on a points system.
