Possession of drugs-Suspects arrested on North Island

The interception followed intelligence reports that a packet containing a suspicious substance had arrived in the country from abroad.

Following the receipt of this information, two NDEA agents travelled to North Island and planned a covert sting operation to allow the delivery of the package to the hotel.

As the NDEA agents watched, the package was delivered to a room in the hotel and collected by the suspect.

Upon searching the room agents found a quantity of herbal material suspected to be cannabis and cannabis seeds.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.
The agents also arrested a second employee of the hotel after a search of his room discovered a quantity of herbal material concealed in a package of cigarettes.

Also found was a quantity of herbal material suspected to be cannabis and cannabis seeds.
Both employees were brought to Mahe to complete the necessary legal procedures.

Meanwhile a number of convictions were recorded in the Magistrate’s Court last week. Peter Ah-Time, a 48-year-old cook of Mare Anglaise, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug and was sentenced by the Magistrate’s Court to pay a fine of R10,000.

Meanwhile the trial of two persons accused in connection with the importation in December last year of 80.8 grammes of pure heroin with a street value of R400,000 continues in the Supreme Court.
